The finished products may be temporary, but there was lasting joy from the renewed Chalk Fest in downtown Emporia on Saturday.
The Emporia Arts Center brought Chalk Fest back to the community after a 15-year absence, and one artist who had attended all the prior Chalk Fests — Marcus Hanson — was back again. He wasted no time registering when the event was announced earlier this summer.
Nancy Pontius was one of three featured artists, and she developed a fall landscape. She enjoys working with chalk.
Featured artist and Emporia State art instructor Hailey Quick was busy creating a raptor in a fall environment. She attended a large Chalk Fest in Georgia last year, and she was grateful to be a featured artist.
Featured artist Heather Sulzen had a pumpkin-based theme for her display. Even with the amount of work involved, she likes the temporary nature of chalk.
About 20 artists, young and old, spent time chalking in the 800 block of Commercial.
