The 2024 Sundays at the Site series came to a poetic end Sunday.
For the 18th time, Poetry on the Porch closed down this year’s series of programs highlighting the history of Red Rocks State Historic Site and the legacy of William Allen White. Roger Heineken and Emporia State University English and Modern Languages Professor and former Kansas Poet Laurette Kevin Rabas co-organized Poetry on the Porch.
Acknowledging the many literary giants who have passed through the White home throughout its history, Rabas says Poetry on the Porch is “in a way” a continuation of the White Legacy.
Heineken agreed with Rabas and says it is a great confidence builder for young poets.
As mentioned, Sunday’s program closed down this year’s Sundays at the Site series, including programs on local architecture, William Allen White’s connection to former presidents and military leaders, Life Magazine’s coverage of Emporia, and much more.
