The annual EMS Walkathon is coming up quickly.
The walkathon will take place Thursday, October 10 at the Emporia High School walking track. As has been the case the past few years, the walkathon will benefit five organizations taking part in the 11th annual Match Day fundraiser in November.
Organizer and EMS teacher Madison Dragonas says students have been hard at work the past several weeks researching and selecting the beneficiaries.
Over the next few weeks, students will be going door-to-door to collect donations for the walkathon which has generated more than $131,000 over the last decade according to Dragonas. In addition to the money raised by students, EMS will also have an online silent auction running throughout the week of the walkathon.
Dragonas says they are still collecting items for the auction, but so far they have a pretty great lineup.
