Earlier this year, the stae of Kansas announced its managed care partners for the KanCare Medicaid program. With the three-year contract period beginning New Year’s Day, the state has now set up a series of in-person and virtual meetings so people can learn more about those companies.
None of the in-person meetings are in Emporia. In fact, the closest meetings are in Topeka, both on Oct. 15 — 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm that day. The virtual meeting is from 1-3 pm Oct. 28.
The state says attendance is not mandatory and the meetings do not affect any eligibility or benefits.
Back in May, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment retained Sunflower Health Plan and United Healthcare Community Plan as partners, also ending its partnership with Aetna and going with Healthy Blue instead. The contract partners, known officially as managed care organizations or MCOs, were chosen from a seven-company field through a Request for Proposal process starting in October 2023.
KanCare currently serves almost 460,000 residents.
