Two area counties are in line for federal disaster relief after severe storms three months ago.
President Joe Biden has approved Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s request for a major disaster declaration. Chase and Wabaunsee counties are among 14 counties listed as obtaining relief through Public Assistance funds, meant for emergency repairs and/or replacements to public infrastructure, and Hazard Mitigation grants funding projects to eliminate or reduce long-term risks to life and property.
The declaration is for storm activity June 26-July 7. During that time, area residents noted:
*Power outages and significant tree damage June 26
*Tornado touchdowns in Lyon and Osage counties June 28
*Flooding rainfall June 30
*High winds, heavy rain and power outages July 2-3
