Damage appears limited after a small fire developed in an east Emporia duplex early Wednesday.
The fire was reported around 6:20 am, initially at 118 East Seventh but reset to 1021 Union Apartment 2 after fire crews arrived in the area. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Tony Fuller tells KVOE News there was apparently a fire in a bathroom overnight, although it was out by the time Emporia Fire was dispatched. Fuller also says there was evidence of unspecified items burned in the bathroom and some smoke as the investigation process got underway.
One resident was checked out for possible medical treatment but declined a hospital trip afterward.
A cause is currently pending. Fuller says there are currently no indications the fire spread beyond the bathroom.
