Tuesday’s sellout of the Emporia Granada Theatre involving Everclear, Marcy Playground and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack was the first for the facility in eight years.
Sellouts don’t happen often enough, according to Theatre Director Hank Osterhout. Matter of fact, concerts don’t happen nearly often enough.
Osterhout says he was “on Cloud 9” to see the Granada full with 828 people crammed inside, especially on a Tuesday night, because of what this can mean for the area.
Osterhout says he has fielded calls from several promoters after Tuesday night’s concert, indicating more well-known performers are interested in playing here.
On the other side, though, Osterhout — who says he was hired to “fix the Granada” — tells KVOE News the theater is in a “transition” period, including a reorganization and a possible “soft closure” to address what he calls operational issues and to raise funds for past bills and future events. Osterhout says several issues date back to the renovation process culminating with the reopening of the theater in 2008 — mainly, operational structure, strategy and funding.
The Granada will have a special meeting on the topic Oct. 3.
