It was a tall task for Emporia High on Homecoming hosting Topeka High Friday night at Welch Stadium.
Topeka High scored 27 points in the second quarter and never looked back in a 47-14 victory over the Spartans. The Trojans extended their lead to 40-0 in the third quarter triggering a running clock the remainder of the game. Emporia High got a pair of 1-yardtouchdowns in the fourth quarter from Rylan Crowell. Crowell had 61 yards rushing on 2o carries and two scores. Micah Gray went 7 of 14 passing for 69 yards. Daniel Gardner had a catch for 48 yards, while Javen Arndt had three catches for 32 yards.
Emporia High (0-4, 0-1 Centennial) begins a 3-game road trip next Friday at Manhattan. Manhattan defeated Junction City, 50-0, and is currently ranked third in Class 6A with a 4-0 record. Kickoff from Bishop Stadium is at 7 p.m. The RV-Doc Pregame Show begins at 6:30 p.m. on KVOE.
