Emporia High boys soccer coach Victor Ibarra will take a win over Manhattan any day.
On Thursday, Ibarra got his wish as the Spartans snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over the Indians at the EHS Turf Field.
Senior David Almaguer was one of several Spartan heroes as his goal in the 19th minute was the difference-maker in the game.
Senior Andrew Ruxton was the other hero in goal, not allowing the Indians to score the equalizer. Ruxton said the Spartans have gained confidence with him in goal.
Ibarra said this win could be a turning point in the season for the Spartans.
Emporia High (4-6, 2-1 Centennial) will host Wichita Trinity at 6:15 Tuesday at the EHS Turf Field.
