The Kansas Turnpike Authority’s cashless tolling process continues locally.
Demolition crews have taken down the longstanding canopy at the Emporia tollgate, doing so late last month, according to spokesperson Rachel Bell.
There is more work ahead as the KTA reconfigures the tollgate as part of the cashless process. Concrete barriers protecting the booth’s personnel and equipment need to be removed and the area needs to be repaved. Bell says those projects should happen over the next two weeks.
The Turnpike Authority developed its plans for cashless tolling before starting construction by raising bridges and building gantries, the structures used to read KTAG transponders and license plates. Tollbooth demolition will likely go through much of next year, although demolition and reconfiguration of the Admire and Cassoday tollgates may happen before the end of this year.
