Early work is now underway for Emporia’s annual CCLIP street project, and another planned project is beginning soon in far northwest Emporia.
Communications Manager Christine Torrens says the city’s contractor will start work next week on pavement and storm sewer repairs near the intersection of 29th Terrace and Westlake Drive. The intersection will see pavement repairs, along with storm sewer extended under 29th Terrace, an “ancillary” sidewalk and pavement repairs around the storm sewer.
The work will mean 29th Terrace will be closed at Westlake to thru traffic throughout the project. Westlake will have southbound traffic at 29th Terrace closed at times and sidewalks may be closed in the immediate area.
Work could last through October and perhaps into early November.
Meanwhile, milling and overlay work is now underway on Commercial Street between Kansas Avenue and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks, with milling or pavement removal done and the overlay to follow. This is part of CCLIP, an annual partnership between the city and the Kansas Department of Transportation to repair parts of Kansas Highway 99 and US Highway 50 in the city limits. Work zones over the next few weeks will include 12th between Commercial and Merchant as well as Merchant between 12th and Interstate 35.
