The Emporia State volleyball team opened up their home schedule 2-0 this weekend after a 25-17, 25-19, 26-24 win over Newman on Saturday night at White Auditorium. After trading the lead early in the first set, ESU went on a 15-6 run to end the period and go up 1-0. ESU took the momentum into the second by building a quick 9-4 lead and the Jets never threatened in the frame. The Jets battled back with a 6-1 run late in the third to lead 23-21 but couldn’t close it out as the Lady Hornets scored five of the next seven points to end the match. ESU (11-3, 3-1 MIAA) out hit the Navy & Red .258 to .164 and were led offensively by Weronika Wrzesinska with 15 kills while Rayishon Jackman & Camilla Ossola also notched double-digit terminations for E-State. Willow Deckinger led the defense with 14 digs. ESU begins a five-match road swing beginning Tuesday to face Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle at Lee Arena in Topeka. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
