Progress is visible for Emporia’s CCLIP highway restoration project.
New pavement now covers most of Commercial Street from South Avenue north to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. Milling is also complete on Commercial from South to Kansas Avenue, with pavement coming soon.
This week, milling or pavement grinding will start on the north phase, including 12th from Commercial to Merchant and Merchant from 12th to Interstate 35. the city says there will be temporary delays, although two-way traffic will continue through the project — which could last into November.
The CCLIP project involves a cost-share between the city and Kansas Department of Transportation. It involves segments of the highways moving through the Emporia city limits, US Highway 50 and Kansas Highway 99.
