Last weekend, Beacon for Hope Suicide Prevention held a car show to raise funds and awarenes for veterans’ mental health initiatives. It has a similar event addressing a different demographic’s needs this upcoming weekend.
Beacon for Hope is teaming with St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for the first annual beneifit car show for Flint Hills Technical College’s Wrangler Ranch food pantry Sunday. The Wrangler Ranch helps to address short-term and potentially urgent food insecurity issues for students — a key mental health concern for college students, according to Beacon, because food insecurity increases the risk of suicide.
Registration is a freewill donation, nonperishable food items or personal hygiene items. Residents attending the car sho can also drop off items for the food pantry and can use those items as votes for their favorite vehicle.
The event is at the Flint Hills Technical College main campus, 3301 West 18th, from 1-4 pm Sunday.
