Flint Hills Technical College is getting ready for two big events over the next week-plus.
The Cut, the college’s live cooking competition, takes place from 6-9 pm Thursday. The Cut features four Culinary Arts students — Ian Anderson, Jaxson Cowan, Jayden Mosley-Cannon and Josh Unruh — making appetizers, entrees and desserts in a live setting, with one student eliminated after each round. Events and Outreach Coordinator Stephanie Anderson says preparation over the last week has been, well, delicious.
Tickets, both for individuals and tables of eight, are still available.
Following The Cut is the college’s Manufacturing Month Open House from 10 am to 2 pm Oct. 17. As part of the open house, residents can learn more about the college’s Industrial Engineering, Welding, Computerized Machine Tool, Automotive Technology and Network Technology and Cybersecurity programs. Students and faculty will be available to answer questions. The CDL power unit and trailer will be on display. Food trucks will be on hand. On KVOE’s most recent edition of Tech Talk this week, President Caron Daugherty thanked lawmakers, city officials and others for their support of the college’s programs.
Daugherty said residents can learn more about possible expansion projects with many programs at or near capacity.
These events come after the college was reported to have nearly 10-percent total enrollment growth and over 6-percent full-time-equivalent student growth between the fall 2023 and fall 2024 semesters.
