The Yankees were held to four hits but a solo shot by Giancarlo “Mike” Stanton in the eighth off Kris Bubic broke the tie in a 3-2 win for New York in Game 3 of the ALDS at Kaufman Stadium Wednesday night. For the third consecutive game of the series, starting pitching was at a premium with neither pitcher lasting past the fifth inning. Seth Lugo gave up two runs in five innings for the Royals while Clarke Schmidt surrendered two in 4.2 innings for the Yankees. Both teams struggled situationally with the Yankees going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position while leaving 11 on, but the Royals were barely better finishing 1-for-5 in the same situation while stranding six. Trailing 2-0, KC scored both runs in the 5th on a double by Kyle Isbel and a triple by Michael Massey. The Yankees lead the ALDS 2-1 and can clinch tomorrow at Kaufman Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:08 p.m. on KVOE.
