Washburn Rural capitalized on its first three drives and never looked back in a 53-8 victory over Emporia High Friday night at Bowen-Glaze Stadium in Topeka.
The Junior Blues led 14-0 after one and capitalized on a Spartan fumble to make it 21-0. Two safeties and another touchdown by Washburn Rural made it 32-0 at the break. Washburn Rural scored 47 seconds into the second half forcing a running clock the remainder of the second half. After a pair of Junior Blue scores, Emporia High produced a 70-yard scoring drive with Micah Gray finding Owen Ruge for a 29-yard touchdown reception with 1:13 left.
Gray was 13-of-22 for 147 yards and a touchdown. Madden Seidl was Gray’s top target with three receptions for 32 yards.
Emporia High (0-6, 0-3 Centennial) travels to Spring Hill next Friday to conclude a 3-game road swing. Spring Hill is 5-1 after defeating Paola, 42-7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with the RV-Doc Pregame Show set for 6:30 p.m. on KVOE.
