A hay bale fire developed in southeast Lyon County on Saturday.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Olpe fire crews were dispatched around 3 pm to 1951 Road 60, about 13 miles southwest of Hartford and 12 miles east-southeast of Olpe, after a report of hay bales on fire threatening multiple vehicles. As they arrived, firefighters found two bales that were on fire and were close to a tractor and other unspecified farm implements. The equipment had minor damage.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn says an equipment malfunction, either from another tractor or an auger used to move grain into a bin, caused the fire.
The affected hay bales are being allowed to continue burning.
