Three Emporia High girls tennis players have qualified for the Class 5A State Tennis Championships next weekend in Andover.
Junior Kali Keough will be making her third consecutive trip to state after finishing second in singles at regionals in Salina on Saturday. Keough was 3-0 on the day heading into the championship match and had to settle for second due to an injury default. Keough will look to improve on a fourth-place finish a season ago.
Juniors Peyton Chanley and Kinsley Hines will be making their first trip to state together after finishing fifth at regionals. For Chanley, it’ll be her second trip to state after she qualified as a freshman with Ashlyn Foraker. It’ll be Hines’ first trip to state.
Katie Smart’s season ended in a first round loss to Cadence Foth of Salina Central. The doubles team of Alexa Tovar and Chelesa Mendez also had their season end in the opening round of regionals.
As a team, Emporia High finished third.
The Class 5A State Tennis Championships begin Friday at the Andover District Tennis Complex.
