The Emporia Recreation Commission’s Rec Center Steering Community is encouraging residents to stop by its latest Design the Future community engagement session Tuesday evening.
Kahler Slater Design Principal Adam Bastjan says the event will feature interactive stations and virtual 3D modeling so residents can look at the proposed building designs at Champions Landing.
According to Bastjan, this will build on input from last month’s community meeting — notably with the overall layout to come at Champions Landing.
There will also be refreshments, kids activities and what the Rec Commission calls surprises are part of the input session. Also, patrons can also learn more about potential repurposing efforts for the Lee Beran Recreation Center, Emporia’s public rec facility since the mid-1970s. Options floated by the Rec Commission’s Steering Committee have ranged from a full revamp of the interior space to a complete demolition and repurposing of the property.
The community engagement session will be from 5-7:30 pm Tuesday at the Fairgrounds Bowyer Community Building.
