Saturday had a record high temperature for the Emporia Municipal Airport. By early Wednesday, temperatures could well go below freezing.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch from 1-9 am Wednesday. Lyon and all other area counties, except for Greenwood, are included.
Widespread frost is expected as Tuesday’s overnight low will go down to 31 at the Emporia airport and could be cooler further north. The Weather Service says these temperatures could kill sensitive plants if they are exposed, so landowners should either move those plants indoors or cover them. There could be issues with outdoor plumbing, so property owners should either disconnect or drain those fixtures.
Saturday had a high temperature of 92 degrees, topping the prior record of 89 degrees set in 1975. High temperatures this week should be in the 60s and 70s. Rain chances hold off until a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday night through Saturday night.
