USD 252 Southern Lyon County’s facilities are in “fantastic shape” in the words of Superintendent Ryan Muhlig, however, there are some significant needs the district is planning to address in the immediate future.
During an interview with KVOE News Tuesday morning, Muhlig discussed the recent tours of district buildings as part of the USD 252 Board of Education’s meeting last Wednesday. From an outside perspective, Muhlig says everything appears to be in tip-top shape, which he credits largely to the work of district maintenance and custodial staff.
That said, Muhlig noted that often the most pressing needs are located in the areas you cannot see. For Southern Lyon County Muhlig says this includes heating and cooling, interior utilities and most specifically roofing.
He tells KVOE News the district is planning roughly $100,000 in roof repairs over the next year with significantly more to come over the next two years.
Muhlig says the district does currently have the funds for said repairs budgeted and should not have any issues, however, if other immediate facility needs were to arise it could disrupt those plans. If that were to happen, Muhlig says the district has a few options to consider, none of which are ideal choices.
An exact timeline for these projects is currently pending. The USD 252 Board of Education will next convene in November.
