Emporia Fire had a busy Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning, battling a grass fire before sunset and a porch fire after midnight.
Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says a small grass fire developed in the 500 block of Road 150, just southwest of Emporia, shortly before 5:30 pm. The fire got into a bean field before it was put out. A cause has not been listed.
Firefighters then went to 317 Sylvan after a porch fire developed shortly before 1:45 am. Steinlage says the fire burned part of the porch and also melted some nearby siding, but it did not extend inside the house. A cause is pending.
