Steady as she goes for the state’s unemployment rate, according to Kansas Department of Labor economist Emilie Doerksen.
Emporia’s jobless rate went from 3.8 percent in August to 3.2 percent in September, while Lyon County’s jobless rate went from 3.7 to 3.2 percent.
Areawide, all area counties had declines between August and September. Morris County now has the area’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.7 percent. Coffey County has the highest unemployment rate at 3.6 percent — but it also has the steepest month-to-month decline, from 4.8 percent to 3.6 percent.
