A record high is likely Thursday, while strong storms can’t be ruled out.
High temperatures are expected to reach 88 at the Emporia Municipal Airport. This would erase the prior record of 86 degrees set in 2012.
Any record heat we get will be pushed aside as a frontal boundary gives us a marginal risk of severe weather between 5-10 pm Thursday. Hail to the size of ping pong balls, or 1.5 inches in diameter, and gusts up to 60 mph are the main issues. Storms will not bring much rain, with up to 0.25 inches expected.
Cooler conditions follow the storms, with a high temperature of 70 degrees Friday and upper 60s Saturday.
