It appears turnout for the offsite voting event at the Lyon County Fairgrounds last week was just the tip of the iceberg for advanced voter numbers.
According to Lyon County Election Officer Tammy Vopat, turnout for in-office advance voting inside of the Lyon County Courthouse this past week has been large and steady. Vopat reports well over 100 voters have turned up to cast their ballots each day since Monday with total turnout approaching 2,500 near the close of business hours Friday.
On top of the physical turnout, the election office has sent out nearly 900 mail ballots to county voters over the past two weeks. For those wishing to receive a mail ballot, Vopat says there is still time to request one but the deadline is approaching quickly.
Mail ballots must be returned or postmarked by Nov. 5 for them to be counted in the election. Vopat says the high level of early interest in this year’s election bodes well for turnout at the polls on election day.
Advance voting will continue over the next week and conclude at noon on Monday, Nov. 4. The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5 with polls open from 7 am to 7 pm.
