An Emporia man facing attempted murder and over 20 other counts is now waiting for a jury’s verdict.
The jury in the criminal case against Travis Wade Westcott officially got the case around mid-afternoon Friday. Jurors deliberated for about two hours before ending that process for the weekend. They will resume deliberations Monday.
Trial proceedings began Oct. 15, with testimony ending this past Thursday. Closing arguments and jury instructions took up much of Friday’s schedule.
Westcott has 25 counts against him in Lyon County District Court stemming from alleged illegal activity between March 2020 and May 2023. Besides attempted murder, Westcott faces a range of charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated witness intimidation, stalking and criminal threat.
Westcott is also facing a charge of aggravated intimidation in a separate case dating back to December 2023. He has a trial status hearing Nov. 13 in that case, with trial set to start either Nov. 18 or Dec. 16.
