Downtown Emporia was teeming with activities Saturday.
Commercial Street had several events, including the Dia de los Muertos parade and festival, with activities like music, dance, food, a fire show and more. Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow organized the festival, and spokesperson Patricia Saenz-Reyes was glad to see so many people — not just from Emporia — celebrating the holiday.
Overlapping the festival was Emporia Main Street’s annual Trick or Treat event, which brought families to businesses for candy and specials. Community Development Coordinator Jessica Buchholz says the events are now major contributors to Emporia’s Halloween atmosphere.
Concluding the slate activities was an appearance by Buckets N Boards at the Emporia Granada Theatre.
The two-man group of Matthew Levingston and Gareth Sever played buckets as well as boards, mats and even a ladder as part of the show.
The Buckets N Boards appearance launches the Emporia Arts Center’s annual Performing Arts Series. Up next will be Iconic: A Glorious Tribute to the King on Feb. 15, followed by Tartan Terrors on March 1 and The Barricade Boys on March 22.
