Results for Olpe’s water sample are pending, thanks to an unforeseen development.
There was a snag in the system, according to Olpe City Clerk Joyce Wilson and Kansas Department of Health and Environment Compliance and Data Management Unit Chief Rob Gavin. After an 8-inch line failed between Emporia and Olpe on Thursday and was fixed by early Friday afternoon, Olpe requested special test bottles from KDHE. Gavin says the bottles were sent out via express mail late Friday afternoon, but due to a shipping glitch the tests didn’t arrive as expected Monday morning. Gavin says the tests will arrive Tuesday.
In the meantime, Olpe went to the Emporia Public Works Department for sample bottles and the city has submitted that batch. The city has been advised it needs a second clear sample to lift the advisory, so it will fill those bottles Tuesday morning and take them to Emporia as well.
Monday’s delay means the boil water advisory will be lifted Wednesday at the earliest.
