If all goes according to plan, the boil water advisory for Olpe could be lifted by lunchtime Wednesday.
According to Olpe City Clerk Joyce Wilson, the first round of test samples sent off to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment came back clear just after 3 pm Tuesday. The second round of water samples was sent to the KDHE labs around 10 am Tuesday and results are expected by noon Wednesday.
If the second round of samples comes back clear as well the boil water advisory, in place since last Friday, will be cleared. If the samples do not come back clear another round will need to be sent off and it will take another 24 hours for those results to come back.
Tuesday’s results came a bit later than originally expected after a glitch in the delivery of test bottles Monday. According to Wilson and Kansas Department of Health and Environment Compliance and Data Management Unit Chief Rob Gavin who says the bottles were sent out via express mail late Friday afternoon, but due to a shipping glitch, the tests didn’t arrive as expected Monday morning.
This all follows a break on an 8-inch water line that developed late last Thursday and was discovered Friday morning after the city’s water tower supply had been completely drained. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more updates as they become available.
