With the latest public input sessions for the Emporia Rec Center Steering Committee coming up quickly, members spent most of their recent meeting earlier this week focusing on those sessions.
According to committee co-chair Erren Harter who spoke with KVOE News following Wednesday’s meeting, the board received a look at the latest designs and renderings of the proposed new rec center facility.
The meeting came two weeks after members made several decisions on the project, including having a flat site with a three-lane lap pool and room for additional amenities in the future. The upcoming community input sessions will take place November 12 and 13th at the site of the proposed facility.
Harter says once the final designs are completed, either by the end of the year or sooner, committee members will shift their attention to a campaign encouraging residents to vote yes on a sales tax funding mechanism for the project during a special vote tentatively set for March 4.
Also, as part of Wednesday’s meeting, committee members held brief discussions on the future of the Lee Beran Recreation Center, but no decisions were made on the matter. Harter says the future of the current center may see additional conversations in coming weeks; however, he does not expect any decisions or significant planning to take place until after the vote in March.
