After the KVOE listening area got anywhere from half an inch to three inches of rainfall Wednesday, an extended batch of rainfall is on the way.
The KVOE listening area could get two to four inches of rain from before sunrise Saturday to Monday night, along with pockets of higher totals. Heavier rain, six-plus inches, is setting up in southeast Kansas. With that amount of rain along with our rain earlier this week, there are some concerns about flooding — but National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Poage tells KVOE News it doesn’t look likely for now.
This could, however, put a notable dent into the drought that has been deepening since late summer. The US Drought Monitor has the entire KVOE listening area in moderate drought, or Level 2 on its five-point scale, with severe drought — Level 3 — just outside the signal coverage area both north and south.
There is a marginal severe weather risk areawide for Sunday afternoon, although rain and cloud cover could well limit or eliminate any instability.
Be sure to stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for updates. If you have rain totals to report, please send message daily and cumulative amounts to the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863.
