The Emporia Fire Department was called to assist with a fire at the Bunge plant in east Emporia Friday evening.
According to Emporia Batallion Chief Tony Fuller, crews were dispatched for a fire in the plant’s east grain bin around 8:20 pm Friday. Full details on the situation are pending through Bunge, however, Fuller tells KVOE News the bin was at quarter capacity with around 80,000 bushels of beans inside it at the time of the fire.
EFD was released from the scene at 3 am Saturday morning and the structure was reportedly intact at that time. A low heat smoldering fire was still ongoing as of 7:30 am Saturday according to Fuller who says a Bunge crew from Texas has been called in to help with the situation.
Further details are pending from Bunge. KVOE News has contacted Bunge’s media relations department for additional information.
