The Emporia State women’s soccer team fell in a 2-0 shutout to Washburn who claimed the outright MIAA women’s soccer championship at the ESU Soccer Pitch on Wednesday. Washburn led 1-0 in the first half and had a one-shot advantage at the break before adding another goal with just over 25 minutes to go on the way to out shooting ESU 10-4 in the match. Washburn garnered six corner kicks while not giving up any to the Lady Hornets. Head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn said Washburn made possession of the ball difficult.
With the loss, ESU (6-8-3, 4-6-2 MIAA) also saw control of their postseason destiny slip away and will now learn their postseason fate after today’s results.
