The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday that Don and Robbie Hill has been chosen to be the Parade Marshals for the 46th Annual Community Christmas Parade.
This year’s parade will take place at 7 p.m. on December 3 and is themed “A Storybook Christmas.”
Don Hill says he and Robbie are fortunate of being selected as this year’s Parade Marshals.
Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jeanie McKenna said it a statement, “We are delighted to honor Don and Robbie Hill as our Parade Marshals this year. Their commitment to service and community spirit embody the essence of what our Christmas Parade represents.”
Don’s service to Emporia includes serving as Preside of the Emporia Rotary Club in 1978, was Chairman of the Chamber in 1985 and has maintained membership for over 50 years. Hill also was the Drive Chair for the United Way of the Flint Hills in 1997 and was a board member from 1997 to 1998. Hill was also elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in November 2002 where he served for 14 years. Hill currently serves as a board member of Newman Regional Health and the Kansas Health Foundation.
Robbie Hill spent her career as a school counselor and has received the Hopkins Foundation Star Award, was a founding member of Emporia Friends of the Library SOS and Emporians for Drug Awareness.
The Hills were part of the leadership committee for the recent SOS Capital Campaign and have both served on the Emporia Arts Council Board.
Don Hill says the way he and Robbie were raised by their parents were a big reason why civil engagement is important in a community.
