A driver was cited after a pedestrian was hurt in a crash in downtown Emporia on Sunday morning.
Emporia Police and Emporia Fire/EMS were dispatched to Sixth and Merchant around 7:15 am after a car hit a man walking in a crosswalk. Emporia Police Officer Gabe Withington says the car was southbound on Merchant and turning east onto Sixth while the man was walking northbound.
The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with suspected serious injuries. The driver was cited for what is called “due regard to a pedestrian,” or essentially failing to yield to a person legally using a crosswalk.
Names have not been released. Eastbound traffic on Sixth was briefly blocked for the medical response and incident investigation.
