A semi driver from Mexico was hurt in a crash on the Kansas Turnpike near the Emporia service exit Saturday night.
The crash happened shortly after 9:30 pm at Turnpike mile marker 131.3, near the service exit entrance and four miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 27-year-old Miguel Ceron-Maldonado of Puebla was northbound and using the inside lane when the semi went off the left side of the highway and overturned.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says Ceron-Maldonado was pinned and later extricated by Emporia Fire/EMS. EagleMed then airlifted Ceron-Maldonado to KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with suspected serious injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt.
The Highway Patrol crash log does not list why Ceron-Maldonado’s semi went off the Turnpike.
