The Emporia State volleyball team survived a five-set challenge to beat Arkansas-Fort Smith 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-25, 15-10 at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Ark. on Friday night. UAFS started strong with 13 kills and just four errors to take the first set, but ESU then hit over .350 in each of the next two periods with just seven errors combined to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Lady Lions sent the match to a fifth set by holding the Lady Hornets to hitting just .069 with seven errors in the fourth. In the final set, ESU broke open a 9-all tie by ending the match on 6-1 run. Freshman Mia Frisbie had the final two kills in a row to end the match and had seven terminations on 11 swings with no errors on the night. Weronika Wrzesinska led ESU with 22 kills while Camilla Ossola added 19. Brailee Bogle engineered the offense with 54 assists while Rayishon Jackman had a double-double with 11 kills and a match-high 27 digs. ESU (17-8, 9-6 MIAA) visits #10 Central Oklahoma Saturday.
