Three area teams saw their season end, while another saw their season continue on Friday night.
Burlingame fell at Frankfort, 46-38. Frankfort scored the game-winning score with 37 seconds to play in the game. Burlingame got on the board first with JD Tyson finding Dane Winters for a six-yard touchdown. Frankfort tied the game at six before Burlingame got the lead back at 12-6 on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Tyson to Winters. Frankfort held a 14-12 lead before Tyson added a 1-yard touchdown run putting the Bearcats up 18-14 at halftime. Frankfort scored 16 consecutive points to take a 30-18 lead before Burlingame got a 5-yard touchdown run by Winters with 1:39 left in the third. Burlingame took a 32-30 lead before Frankfort responded taking a 38-32 lead. Winters tied the game at 38 with 5:23 to go. Winters recorded an interception but on the next play Frankfort picked off Tyson setting up the game-winning score.
Burlingame coach Jeff Slater said 2-point conversions were big as the Bearcats missed five of six conversions.
Winters had 13 carries for 59 yards and two touchdowns and had 12 catches for 108 yards and two scores. Tyson had 17 carries for 33 yards and a score while going 16 for 29 for 159 yards and three scores.
Burlingame ends its season with a 10-1.
Madison fell to Clifton-Clyde, 46-0, at DeWitt Family Sports Stadium.
Clifton-Clyde recovered a Madison fumble on the opening kickoff and never looked back scoring 22 points in the first quarter. The Eagles scored 24 points in the second quarter and led 46-0 with 1:12 remaining before halftime. Madison drove downfield into Clifton-Clyde territory but could not get into the endzone to extend the game.
Despite the outcome, Madison coach Nate Teichgraeber said he’s proud of his football team for the season they were able to put together.
Madison was held to 69 yards of total offense with Colton Isch recording 10 carries for 30 yards and was 3 for 13 passing for 31 yards. Cade Hurlbert was the Bulldogs’ leading receiver with a catch for 20 yards.
Madison ends its season with a 7-4 record.
Osage City saw its season end as the 2-time defending state champions in Class 2A, Nemaha Central, defeated the Indians, 33-27. The Thunder will host Council Grove in a 2A sub-state championship game next Friday after the Braves went on the road and upset No. 1 seed Humboldt, 31-8.
