Scattered power outages across the KVOE listening area have been restored after a windy, wet day Monday.
Close to 1,100 Evergy customers lost power Monday evening, with over 900 offline in far west Emporia and just west of Emporia. Lebo had over 100 customers go dark, and the Olivet area had more than 70 customers without power.
The Hartford area had an untold number of Evergy customers offline before noon.
Meanwhile, 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative reported a handful of outages in Lyon County on Monday evening. All were resolved.
Early indications are strong winds caused most, if not all, of the outages Monday. There was a 59 mph wind gust five miles south-southwest of Emporia, coupled with a 58 mph wind gust at the Emporia Municipal Airport.
While it was windy, there was no severe weather. Much of Kansas, including the entire KVOE listening area, was under a marginal all-hazards severe weather risk.
9:30 pm Monday: Power restored to far west Emporia
More than 900 Evergy customers are now back online following large-scale outages both in and around Emporia.
According to Evergy officials, an outage affecting more than 900 residents in Far West Emporia was restored just after 9:15 pm, roughly two hours after it was originally reported. Another 100 customers remain offline in Lebo with 70 more affected in Olivet.
While work is still underway, the cause of the outages has been determined to be the high winds that have been hammering the listening area throughout the day Monday. One broken pole was reported just east of Madison as a result of the winds, however, that outage affected less than 10 customers.
4 Rivers Electric Cooperative has less than five customers without power in Lyon County. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more updates as they develop.
