Get ready for Thanksgiving stuffing — and stuffed highways before you get to Grandma’s house.
Just in Kansas, over 860,000 residents are expected to travel at least 50 miles for the holiday travel period, which AAA lists as between this upcoming Tuesday and Dec. 2. That’s an increase of 2 percent from last year. Also, over 90 percent of Kansas travelers will be driving to their Thanksgving celebration, up 1.4 percent from last year.
Nationally, nearly 80 million travelers are expected, with 90 percent going to their destinations by ground.
AAA Kansas Manager of Public and Government Affairs Shawn Steward says there are several factors in the increased travel projections.
Steward says this is a prime time for getting vehicles checked before you head out. AAA says it responded to almost 2,500 emergency roadside assistance calls last Thanksgiving, with the main reasons being vehicle breakdowns needing tow trucks, dead batteries and tire issues.
