Two Emporia Spartan Boxers took to the ring Friday in Wichita.
12-year-old Arlis Sieberns (90 lbs) and 15-year-old Xavier Cheney (132 lbs) went the distance in their respective tournament bouts but came up just short losing split decisions. Spartan Boxing is not done at the state tournament as 13-year-old Zuriel Trujillo will compete at 106 lbs to advance to the regional tournament.
With a win, Trujillo will join 14-year-old Cristian “Gio” Cervantes at 154 lbs and 13-year-old Ivan Herron at 80 lbs both of whom advanced via walk-through.
