A Kansas City, Kansas man was hurt in a wreck northeast of Emporia on Thursday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 44-year-old Arthur Watson was southbound and crashed at Kansas Turnpike mile marker 136.5, or four miles northeast of the Emporia service exit and about nine miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate. Troopers say Watson may have had a medical issue, leading to his pickup hitting a guardrail before hitting the center barrier wall, going across the southbound lanes into a ditch, returning to the highway and hitting the center barrier wall a second time before stopping.
Emergency crews took Watson to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with suspected serious injuries. Watson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was the only person involved.
