The Salvation Army of Emporia has kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign which means residents will be hearing plenty of this in coming weeks.
The campaign kicked off Friday and saw the first of many special events Saturday morning with the annual media challenge. KVOE employees happily did their part manning the kettle at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply.
KVOE Station Manager Ron Thomas says bell ringing is just one of the many ways the station supports the great work of the Salvation Army.
This year’s kettle campaign has a goal of $50,000 with a $10,000 match offered if the campaign can reach $40,000. Salvation Army Cpt. Mylie Hadden has high hopes for this year and says this year residents will have a new way to give thanks to tap-to-pay machines that have been installed at both the Bluestem and WalMart kettle locations.
Other upcoming special events as part of the Red Kettle Campaign will include Badges United on December 14 and the WalMart $20 match day the week prior on December 7. The now annual Real Estate Wednesday event will also make a return to the schedule, however, a date for that event is still pending.
With such a lofty goal this year, Hadden says bell ringers are needed over the next several weeks, especially during weekdays. If you would like to volunteer your time to man a kettle you can sign up for a shift at RegisterToRing.com.
