With Thanksgiving travel coming soon, you may be thinking of tanking up on gas the next few days.
You should also consider tanking up on sleep.
Results from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety’s 2020 Traffic Safety Culture Index shows that 95 percent of drivers look at distracted or drowsy driving as very or extremely dangerous, but around 17 percent of drivers then say they have driven while being so tired they have a hard time staying awake at least once in the previous month.
With that in mind, AAA Kansas Manager of Public and Government Affairs Shawn Steward says it’s important to be refreshed while behind the wheel — starting with at least seven hours of sleep.
Gas prices are between $2.59 and $2.69 a gallon in Emporia to start the week. Areawide, gas prices are as low as $2.58 in Burlingame and $2.59 in Lebo.
Winter weather is not a problem in this week’s forecast, although temperatures will be cool. However, Steward says it’s always a sound idea to travel with an emergency kit. Several things should be included, like blankets, bottled water, non-perishable food, cell phone charger, ice scraper, jumper cables, flashlight with working batteries and a first-aid kit.
