Emporia Fire handled a pair of small fires, one Monday evening and one well before sunrise Tuesday.
The first fire happened at a house at 813 Mechanic and was reported around 7:15 pm. The fire was on the outside and on the second story, causing minor damage to siding with no sign of extending inside the house.
The cause is under investigation.
Around 3:15 am, firefighters went to the Burlington Northen Santa Fe rail crossing at Road G after a report of a train fire. Firefighters say the fire developed in one engine after grease buildup near the wheels and brakes. The fire was limited to the wheels and was put out quickly. The engine was left on site temporarily for further discussion on repairs.
