The official anniversary date may have passed, but the celebration is coming soon for The Sweet Granada.
The chocolate shop has its 20th anniversary bash Saturday at the Granada Theatre next door. Sweet Granada owner and founder Kim Redeker says her business has been successful because of longstanding community support.
This has been a big year for the Sweet Granada, which finished second in the USA Today 10Best Candy Stores competition back in August. The Sweet Granada also opened up a storefront in Kansas City’s Red Bridge Shopping Center in May.
Activities begin at 2 pm, including a free screening of “Wonka.” Residents attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item because The Sweet Granada will donate those items and 10 percent of its Saturday sales to local food pantries.
This also pairs with Emporia Main Street’s Small Business Saturday, including the Main Street Elf Hunt from 10 am to 2 pm.
