Southwick House Executive Director Susan Brinkman is looking forward to Thursday’s Turkey Day Dash — and with good reason.
This is the first time Southwick House has organized the event after 13 years of benefiting Walnut School’s PTO. Brinkman says the event is also the first major public fundraiser for the agency, and it comes as fundraising and outreach are going well for the agency.
Southwick House is in the process of building a new, 9,000-square-foot facility for people in crisis situations at 115 East Logan as part of a better than $3.5 million fundraising effort. Southwick House is filling a niche for women, children and families left largely open when its predecessor, Plumb Place, ended operations in late 2020.
The run-walk event begins at 7:30 am at Champions Landing, with the New Start Choir starting holiday music at 6:45 am. Cost is $15 for runners and walkers 16 years and older, $5 for dashers ages 5-15 and free for dashers 4 and younger. Costumes are encouraged but there will not be a contest. A random prize wheel is new to the event.
KVOE’s Tagan Trahoon will broadcast from the Turkey Day Dash starting at 6:45 am.
