Graduate guard Katie Horyna notched her first career double-double matching a career-high of 25 points and a personal best 10 rebounds but Missouri Science & Technology set a new school record with 17 3-pointers on the way to an 85-67 victory over Emporia State at Gibson Arena in Rolla, Mo. on Wednesday. S&T opened the game with three-straight 3-pointers on the way to finishing 17-for-31 on the night. The Lady Miners sprinted to a 16-4 lead and never trailed. It was the first win in the series for the Lady Miners since 1996 when they played as Missouri-Rolla and ended an 18-game winning streak in the series for the Lady Hornets. Head coach Brian Ostermann gave credit to S&T for their standout shooting.
Gracie Gilpin added 22 for ESU and was the only other Lady Hornet in double figures. E-State (3-4) returns to action on Thursday to host Northwest Missouri in their MIAA opener at White Auditorium. Coverage begins at 5:00 p.m. on the Hornet Sports Network/Mix 104.9.
