As drought conditions affect much of Kansas, including the KVOE listening area, US Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas is urging his fellow lawmakers to account for drought as they set disaster relief amounts.
Moran is urging the Appropriations Committee — and Congress as a whole — to give Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack specific directions on how ag-related disaster funds should be spent, along with some flexibility to address needs lawmakers may have missed.
Moran’s comments come as the US Drought Monitor’s drought coverage map hasn’t shifted much at all over the last week. Most of the KVOE listening area is listed as abnormally dry, while the south half of Chase County is drought-free. Moderate drought remains just north of the KVOE listening area.
